Day 2

Ndutu Conservation Area ( South Serengeti & North Ngorongoro)

After breakfast we will go to Ndutu conservation in to see Calving

The Ndutu Region forms part of the northern section of Ngorongoro Conservation Area and stretches to the unfenced southern reaches of the Serengeti National Park, a meeting point between these two incredible wilderness areas. This section of the park is made up of rolling grasslands peppered with alkaline lakes that attract flocks of flamingos, as well as acacia woodlands.

lake ndutu serengeti

There’s year-round resident wildlife (such as giraffe, elephant, hyena and various antelope species) in the Ndutu Region, and you can spot animals around the waterholes during the dry season from June to November. Look out for the six cat species – lion, cheetah, leopard, serval, African wild cat and caracal – that are present throughout the year.

The Great Migration herds start to arrive from the north, until April when the millions of wildebeest, zebra and gazelle have trekked northwards again. In the early months of the year – with a peak in February – the wildebeest herds are calving on the verdant grassy plains: thousands upon thousands of baby animals are born every day, attracting the attention of cheetah, lion and hyena.

A big draw of the Ndutu Region is to see the full circle of the Great Migration, from the return of the herds to graze in December, and then the calving which takes place in January and February, and then the departure of the herds again in April as they start making their journey northwards. Calving season is particularly dramatic: a million wildebeest give birth to 8000 babies every day, and as these newborns take their first steps, they’re targeted by lion, leopard, cheetah and hyena.

The prime game viewing spot in the Ndutu Region is around Lake Ndutu, where enormous herds congregate between December and April to graze and calve. The forests and granite kopjes around Lake Ndutu are also home to lots of game outside of the migration months.

Sightings of six species of cats – leopard, lion, cheetah, caracal, African wildcat and serval – are a big highlight of visiting the Ndutu Region. You can spot the cats throughout the year, but the best viewing is during the calving months of January and February, when these predators pick on the fledgling baby animals.

Embark on another thrilling game drive, exploring different areas of the Serengeti and discovering hidden gems of natural beauty along the way. Keep your eyes peeled for elusive leopard lounging in the branches of acacia trees or graceful giraffes gracefully crossing the savannah.

Evening:

As the day draws to a close, enjoy a spectacular sunset over the Serengeti plains, painting the sky in hues of orange and pink. Day 6

A day of Tribes

A visit to the Hadzabe and Datoga tribes

We are experiencing the development of human habitations: from the Dzaba tribe, which uses baobab trunks in caves and cavities in the rainy season and arbors from local plants, to the Maasai tribe that builds its huts from branches on which mud and dung are spread; And to the Bantu tribe (Datoga) who build a rectangular hut from bricks made of mud. We will also get to know the complexity, the difficulties and the creativity required, in the migration of the tribes in the Syrian-African divide.

The Hadzabe tribe and the Datoga tribe are among the last authentic and traditional tribes left in Africa and have a continuous history of about 12 thousand years.

About 700 people remain from the Hadzaba tribe. The members of the tribe live mainly near Lake Eyasi (Lake Eyasi) in northern Tanzania, without a permanent home - during the dry season they live in huts that they build from twigs and grass. During the rainy season, they find shelter from the rains in caves and rock crevices. Each group in the tribe has 20-30 people. The women of the tribe gather fruits and edible roots while the men hunt with a bow and arrow as in the days of ancient man. The Hadza tribe speaks the Hadza language, a language that combines consonant clicks and tongue clicks.

The members of the Datoga tribe are known as the sworn enemies of the Maasai tribe. The men of the tribe migrate with the herds of sheep and cattle between the north of the country and the south, in search of pastures. The women stay at home and raise the children. Some of the men engage in small blacksmithing - in a few minutes they melt light metals and with the help of a hammer and an anvil make arrow heads and various jewelry, which they will exchange with the members of the Dzaba tribe in exchange for animal skins or honey. The men wear red robes while the women scar their facial skin in symmetrical shapes around the eyes for beauty and wear beautiful leather clothes. The tribe has permanent buildings made of mud bricks and straw.

Later you will taken to the Airport for departure
